Notes for (Lavinia) Josephine Hoskins
Like her mother, Josephine married very young. She had her first known child when she was 16. She was 29 and a widow by the time of the 1880 census. Her 53 year old mother was living with her (not the other way around).

There are 1890 records of a military pension filing for James T. Bartley on behalf of Louvenia J. Clayton, listed as widow, with John M. Clayton Gdn. listed in the box for “minor,” perhaps because the space was there and there was no separate box for agents or guardians.93
