Notes for Aquilla Hoskins
Aquilla is a known brother of Vincent2188 and is found close to Joseph Randall, Vincent and James M. in various records of Washington County.

The first record of I’ve found of his presence is in the Washington County tax lists of 1806, owning one horse.2189 There are other Hoskins around, including Joseph R., David and Charles, though he is not particularly close to any of them in the records. He appears as a head of household in the 1810 census2190 He appears in the tax lists for several of the following years, usually along with Joseph R. and Vincent Hoskins. Aquilla’s last tax list appearance was in 1826, when he was in the line following Randal Hoskins and a few lines above James M. Hoskins.2191 He died sometime not long thereafter.

In 1828, the General Assembly of Kentucky passed a resolution providing in part, “SEC. 2. Be it further enacted, That it shall and may be.lawful for Vincent Hoskins of Washington county, to exhibit his bill in chancery against the infant heirs and representatives of his brother Aquilla Hoskins, deceased, in the Washington Circuit Court, setting forth and charging in substance and in apt words, that in tbe lifetime of said Aquilla, they entered into a verbal contract for the exchange of certain lots ยทlying and being in the lown of Lebanon in said county, and that the exchange actually took place, whereupon the said Vincent made large and extensive improvements on the lot so exchanged, but that no deeds or other conveyances were e ver made in consequence of the subsequent death of the said Aquilla, and praying for a specific execution of said contract.”2192 The associated records of the court seem to have been lost, so I am unable to find out how this worked out.

There is a somewhat younger Aquilla Hoskins in Bullitt County in the following decades. Because the younger Aquilla is not listed among the heirs of the elder Aquilla,
2185 I am guessing that he is the son of one of the elder’s brothers, perhaps (just by process of elimination) John. Curiously, James M. Hoskins sometimes appears close to the Washington Aquilla until his death, and sometimes close to the Bullitt Aquilla afterwards.
