He fought in the War of 1812 as a private.
1573 He was a saddler;
1576 conceivably this leather-working trade brought him into contact with shoemaker Thomas Lloyd, who lived nearby and married Jacob’s wife’s sister. Jacob was executor of the will of his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Oplinger.
