He was Justice of the Peace for Lincolnshire (Lindsay district) 1520-57, Burgess (M.P.) for Great Grimsby in 1523 and 1529, Knight of the Shire for Lincolnshire 1539.402

“After the fall of Wolsey in 1529, he was appointed a commissioner to enquire into the cardinal’s possessions in Lincolnshire. In 1536, while conducting the election of new town officers at Louth, LIncolnshire, he was seised by an armed mob. He and others were compelled to take an oath to be true to the commons. during the confusion caused by the arrival of further prisoners, he managed to escape.”402
